If you haven’t raced the KHMTT before, or if you don’t remember or have not experienced the full course, the COBRAS will be holding course a familiarization ride again this year.
The date is Saturday March 24th, Meet at 8:45 am to ride at 9:00. The forecast is Partly Cloudy, 46 degrees, wind 9 South increasing. The wind across the lake is cold, bring layers.
We will meet at Cherry Creek State Park in the Smoky Hill parking lot. There is a vehicle entry fee to the park, however there is no entry fee for bicycles and there is parking off of East Union Avenue in the Village Greens Park North, near Cherry Creek High School, just outside the park and you can cycle into the park from there. If you do, allow at least 20 minutes to cycle around the lake to the Smoky Hill parking lot.
We will ride the course with stops to talk about the Start, Finish, the Lake Loop turn around where there is a left turn across traffic, intersections and general riding / marshaling protocols. If you are a marshal, you are highly encouraged to join the familiarization ride.
The number one complaint about cyclists in the park is ignoring vehicular traffic by riding two or more wide and stopping in the traffic lanes. The park roads lack shoulders in many areas so please ride single file and move off the pavement when stopping.
After the discussion ride we may do a complete course ride for time trial training.
